Moving into a condo: book more than the truck.

Elevators, loading areas and building rules can decide how smoothly a condo move goes. Confirm them before choosing an arrival time.

At a glance

Your quick checklist

  • Elevator and loading reservations
  • Arrival instructions for both buildings
  • Measurements for oversized furniture
  • Building contact available on moving day
01

Call both buildings

Ask the property manager how moves are booked, which elevator is available and whether a loading area must be reserved separately. Rules differ by building. Do not assume the same arrangements apply at your new address.

02

Work backwards from your slot

Share the exact elevator window with your movers, including when loading must finish. Allow for the route between buildings and the time needed to unload. If the two slots do not line up, ask the team to help plan the sequence before confirming the day.

03

Measure the awkward pieces

Check your largest sofa, bed components and dining table against the door, elevator opening and hallway turns. Photograph tight corners. The useful question is whether the whole route works, not simply whether an item fits inside the elevator.

04

Make arrival straightforward

Send the loading entrance address, the superintendent’s contact and instructions for obtaining keys or elevator access. Ask about floor protection, paperwork and any building deposit directly with management. Keep these details together on your phone so the crew is not waiting while you search through emails.
