Rural lots need a little more information
On a country property, most of our questions are about getting the truck in and out. How long is the driveway? Is it paved, gravel or grass? Is there somewhere to turn around? Can a loaded truck get close to the outbuilding, or does everything have to be carried across a yard? Answer those in your message and we can give you a price that will not change on the day.
Old sheds and barns usually hold a mix of broken lawn equipment, scrap lumber, rolls of fencing, old furniture moved out of the house years ago. Most of it can go. Fuel, oil, pesticides and anything in an unlabelled container cannot.
Five details to send with a rural junk request
Driveway length and surface
Paved, gravel or grass, and whether it is soft after rain.
Turnaround
Whether a truck can turn on the property or has to reverse out.
Distance from truck to pile
A carry across a field adds real time.
Heavy or bulky items
Old riding mowers, wood stoves, cast-iron equipment, large tarps of scrap.
Anything that might be hazardous
Fuel cans, oil drums, chemicals. These stay behind.
Send photos of the shed or barn
Send photos of the building inside and out, plus a shot of the driveway. We confirm a price for the clear-out and whether your date works.
Rural and in-town loads
| Where | Typical contents | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Georgetown house | Basement furniture, boxes, old electronics | Standard access; tell us about stairs. |
| Acton or Glen Williams older home | Attic and cellar contents | Narrow stairs and low ceilings take longer. |
| Rural shed or barn | Scrap wood, fencing, broken equipment | Driveway and carry distance matter most. |
| Workshop | Benches, cabinets, tools left behind | Fuel and oils are not taken. |
Hazardous items and the dump run
Halton Region runs household hazardous waste drop-off for Halton Hills residents. Paint, solvents, pesticides, propane cylinders and motor oil go there, not in a junk truck. Check the Region's site for the current location and days.
Regular curbside collection in the town follows Halton's rules, and those limits are not the same as in Peel or Hamilton. If you live rurally, check whether your road has the same service as town streets before planning around it.
For a pile that has been growing behind the barn for years, one haul is usually easier than several trips in a pickup to a transfer station, especially when the load includes furniture and appliances that are awkward to lift alone.
Your questions, answered
Before you book
Can your truck get down a gravel driveway?
Usually, yes, if it is firm. Tell us the length and whether it gets soft in wet weather; a muddy lane may mean carrying items closer to the road.
Do you take scrap metal and old equipment?
Often, yes. Send photos, because heavy cast-iron or engine parts change the crew and the load.
Will you take fuel or oil from the shed?
No. Fuel, oil, pesticides and other chemicals go to Halton Region's household hazardous waste drop-off.
How do you price a barn clear-out?
Per job, from photos and your access details. We give a firm price before booking.
Do you work in Georgetown as well as rural areas?
We take jobs across Halton Hills on request, town or country. Send your address and date and we will confirm.
Can you take down an old shed?
Demolition is not on our service list. If the shed is already down, we can usually haul the materials; send photos.
